They are not anarchists; rather they like to take the shape of what is there and improve it in an original way. Any Aquarian will tell you that ‘Who’s Who’ is littered with Aquarians, and it is true that they do seem to have more than their fair share of high achievers, especially in the sciences, filmmaking and writing. They also have more than their fair share of strong women and famous feminists, including Gertrude Stein, Alice Walker, Colette, Virginia Woolf, Betty Friedan, Susan B Anthony and Germaine Greer.

Aquarians are known for their open-minded approach to life and people. They make it their business to be accepting of all people and cultures. They are generally attracted to a more liberal, humanitarian brand of politics, and if they are interested in politics, they will throw themselves into it.

Their fixed quality helps them follow through ideas to their natural conclusion (as opposed to fellow air signs Gemini and Libra, who relish ideas but are flippant about their usefulness), but it can also make them quite aggressive in attacking their opponents. If they are not careful, they may find that their continuous support of a cause they hold dear may cause the narrowing of that broad-minded approach they prize so much. In its worst manifestation, this can develop into a hatred for their enemies that is capable of turning them into sceptics and pessimists.

Aquarians can’t stand commitment and they will do anything to get out of confirming a time or place. If you invite your Aquarian friend out to dinner on Friday night, no matter how far in advance you ask, don’t expect an answer until Friday morning. And even if they volunteer a time, it will bear no relation to the time they actually arrive.

Like Virgo, Aquarians can be a bit squeamish about bodies, and would prefer to live in the monastic cleanliness of their minds. This makes sharing personal space with others a little confronting for Aquarians. It wasn’t so long ago that Aquarius was ruled by Saturn, and there are still facets of the Aquarian nature that like to do things in a well-mannered way.

They love the idea of people, but as long as it is only in the abstract. They may love the idea of living in a commune, but the reality of all that shared space (especially the private spaces like the bathroom) can be too much.

They are also not the sort of person to take to a sentimental movie. Theirs will be the only dry eyes by the end. They are also skilled at giving such a devastating critique of a film, that even if you came out exalted by it, by the time you have sat through a post-film coffee with your Aquarian, you will be telling the people at work the next day, ‘Oh yeah, it was OK . .
