Divining the Future, guide to use Pendulum to Predict Future part 1
As pendulums become increasingly popular methods of divining the future, so they’re becoming more widely available. Traditionally shaped pendulums are most commonly made from brass or wood, and are usually shaped like plumb-bobs suspended from a length of cord. Alternatively, you can buy pendulums made of rock crystal or some other semiprecious stone. If you prefer, you can create your own, perhaps using a wedding ring, a favourite piece of jewellery or a door-key — even a large paper-clip if it’s the only suitable object that you have to hand. It really doesn‘t matter what you use, provided it is not shaped in such a way that it can only swing in one direction or tends to veer off to one side.
When choosing a suitable pendulum, you need one that is heavy enough to be carried along by its own momentum and to swing in a definite arc without being blown off-course by sudden sighs from you or gusts of wind from an open window You should also choose a pendulum that you like and feel comfortable with — if you aren’t happy with your pendulum you won’t use it.
If you’ve bought a classic plumb-bob pendulum, it will already have a piece of cord attached to it. If, however, you are devising your own you must choose a length of ribbon or cord that is long enough and smooth enough to allow the pendulum to swing freely. Experiment with the length of the cord until it feels comfortable to use. In general, the heavier the pendulum, the longer the cord. Avoid anything that has a rough texture, as the pendulum could snag on ,this and not swing properly.
Opinion is divided about what you should do with your pendulum when its not in use. Some people leave theirs in a safe place, awaiting their call. Others carry it with them at all times, reasoning that they never know when they’ll need it.
They may also believe that always having the pendulum with them impregnates it with their vibrations and therefore makes it more sensitive. However, there are no rules about this, so do whatever seems most natural to you.
How to use the Pendulum
The beauty of the pendulum lies in its ability to only answer ‘yes‘, ‘no’ or ‘maybe‘ to a question. At first, you may think that this gives it a very limited appeal. What is the point of something that can only respond in such a bald way, you might wonder. However, once you begin to experiment with a pendulum you’ll realize that there are times when ‘yes‘ or ‘no’ is the only answer you want — it is precisely this categorical response that can point you in the right direction. Sometimes you need the subtlety and layers of that you can only get from reading the tarot or playing cards. At other times these forms of divination may not be immediate enough for your needs. For instance, if you can’t decide whether to accept the new job that’s been offered to you, the pendulum will give you a straight, no-nonsense answer. After that, you can use a more complex technique if you want to investigate your options further.
When you want to use a pendulum, the first thing you should do is to discover how it’s going to respond to your questions. In order to do this, you must ask it to demonstrate its various responses. These are the search position, ‘yes‘, ‘no’ and ‘maybe‘. You can do this either out loud or mentally, if someone happens to be within earshot and you don’t want to attract any funny looks.
Hold the top of the cord or ribbon between your thumb and forefinger, letting the pendulum hang down — you may find it easiest if you rest your elbow on a table. Make sure the pendulum is still, then ask it to show you its search position. It will either stay still or start to move. Make a note of this.
Now ask the pendulum to show you its ‘yes‘ response. If you wish, you can do this by asking the pendulum a precise question to which you know the answer can only be in the affirmative. (For instance, you could ask it if a wooden table is made from wood.) The pendulum will start to move — if it doesn‘t, swing it in a circular direction and then watch to see what movement it settles into. It might swing backwards and forwards, or from side to side. Do this a couple of times to check that this is definitely the ‘yes‘ response.
Repeat the process to discover the ‘no’ response. Once again, ask a question to which the only answer can be in the negative — you could now ask the pendulum if the table you’re sitting at is made of cream cheese. The pendulum will start to swing in a direction that’s different from the ‘yes‘ response. For instance, if ‘yes‘ is a swing backwards and forwards, ‘no’ could be a swing from left to right. Check this a couple of times, to ensure that both you and the pendulum are clear about what means ‘no’.
Now ask the pendulum to show you its fourth response, which you can interpret as ‘maybe‘ or `stupid question‘. It is simple to do this — ask it a silly question. If the pendulum doesn‘t move, start to swing it in a circular direction, then watch its movement. It might be elliptical, or it could be diagonal. You now have the four pendulum responses, and you should keep practising them every day for about a week, so you’re completely familiar with them.
Sometimes, the pendulum can play a little game with you, muddling up its responses or playing possum. If this happens, you need to be firm with it and ask it to co-operate. This may sound bizarre yet what you’re really doing is instructing your subconscious, not the pendulum, to try harder. If, after this, the pendulum continues to give you a nonsensical response, you may decide that it’s not a good time to ask your question and that you should try again later.
No matter how many times you’ve used a pendulum, you should always check how it’s going to respond before you ask it any questions. Sometimes it will change.the direction of its ‘yes‘, ‘no’ and ‘maybe‘ swings, and this can cause havoc if you aren’t aware of awhat is going on..
Keep practising with the pendulum, so you can get used to each other. When you’re confident that you know the direction of each response, you can hold the pendulum and ask it to move from ‘yes‘ to ‘no’ to ‘maybe/wrong question‘, back to ‘yes‘, and so on, and it will obediently follow your instructions. At this stage, you are consciously influencing the swing of the pendulum, but that doesn‘t matter because you aren’t dowsing for anything, you are simply mastering how to use the pendulum.
