Divining the Future, guide to use Pendulum to Predict Future part 2
Asking the Right Questions
One of the most common problems for people getting accustomed to using a pendulum is that they ask it the wrong question. Always remember that it can only answer ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘maybe/wrong question‘, so there’s no point in asking something like, ‘Should I buy the pink scarf or the black suit?’ It will either refuse to co-operate at all or give you the ‘wrong question‘ response.
You should also be as specific as possible when asking a question. If you looked at three black suits in the course of your shopping trip then you should specify which one it is you’re thinking of buying. Otherwise, the pendulum may again become confused. Remember that the answer can only ever be as good as the question.
How the Pendulum Works
By now, you may be thinking that the pendulum has obviously become anthropomorphized by the people who use it. Otherwise, how on earth could it get confused by the wrong question?
To appreciate this, you have to understand how the pendulum works. Or, rather, how it may work — no one knows for certain. When it’s sitting on a table or in a box, a pendulum is simply an inanimate object. And that condition doesn’t change when you hold its cord between your fingers. However, when you ask it a question, something takes over. Everyone has a theory as to what this is, but as yet there are no conclusive answers.
One popular theory is that the pendulum acts as a link to your subconscious, enabling you to tune into ideas and knowledge that your conscious mind is unaware of or has screened out. When you ask your question, your subconscious responds by sending minute electrical impulses down your arm, and these influence the swing of the pendulum. You will already have experienced this if you’ve been making the pendulum change the direction of its swing. You will also experience it if you ask the pendulum a question in which you have a vested emotional interest — unless you can distract yourself, the answer will always be the one you want to hear.
Other theories are that some form of radar is working (this seems quite possible if you’re using the pendulum to dowse for water or a lost object); that you’ve tuned into the Akashic Records (the term first given by Rudolf Steiner to the esoteric concept of a cosmic ‘library’ that contains records of absolutely everything that’s ever happened in the world); or that your guardian angel, or maybe your long-dead Aunt Dorothy, is giving you the answers.
Whether any or none of these theories is correct doesn’t alter the fact that the pendulum does actually work. However, if you tell yourself that it is unscientific and therefore can’t work, you have just ensured that it won’t. So, don’t worry about how or why it works, simply concentrate on the fact that it does.
